See photo in "On the needles"--you can't tell from the chart, but the vertical line or rib of knit stitches on the chart undulates gently, hence the name "seaweed." Based on pattern from Barbara Walker's 2nd Treasury of Knitting patterns; her written directions are from the "wrong" side (which is also attractive). I charted the design looking at the "right" side, and changed the starting point of the repeat so the wavy ribs are centered on each repeat, adding one stitch for symmetry. I felt this scarf would look best without fringe, but if you want to add fringe, start at stitch #1 and then place fringe at 3 st intervals. Knit using Filatura di Crosa "Elen." Cast on mult of 6 sts + 1 (I used 43 sts) and follow chart until scarf desired length, ending with Row 12. Bind off in patt.
